Whether you are here because you feel depressed or anxious or you just feel stuck with the direction your life is currently headed, I want to help.
You have probably tried everything you can think of to get back to feeling like your old self and now your emotions have started to overwhelm you or affect your relationships with others.
You have been looking for a therapist and it's so hard to choose one, let alone, find one that will call you back and has openings!
You want someone you can talk to about all these worries and negative feelings, somewhere you won't feel judged but where you can really sift through the emotions and start feeling like you are back in control of your life. You want straight forward techniques that work and a therapist who really understands.
Hopefully, you can find what you are looking for right here!
I focus primarily on individuals. I see adults and also feel comfortable treating children from ages 8 up through the teen age years. I do a lot of work focused on processing the meaning we attach to events and to be quite honest, I don't feel kids younger than 8 are able to do that type of work.
Feelings of sadness and hopelessness can control our life. It can be hard to get out of bed in the morning and you may find yourself struggling to do the things you used to enjoy.
Staying up all night worrying about the next day, going back over the decisions you made or the conversations you had and not able to turn your mind off can contribute to us feeling restless, losing sleep and unsure of ourselves.
After experiencing a life threatening experience or a life changing experience, we may have nightmares, trouble sleeping, things that remind of the event and may even re-experience the event. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few of the emotions that can linger after these events. Using cognitive processing or prolonged exposure techniques we can reduce some of those symptoms until they stop disrupting your life.
Struggling with your out of control teenager or feeling like you are losing your temper one too many times with your kids? Are you having trouble getting your kids to listen or do what you want them to do and feel like you are failing as a parent. I can help you feel more in control of your emotions and feel confident with your parenting skills.
Career changes, death of a loved one, divorce, problems in our relationships or even moving to a new city. These major life events can shift our way of thinking and cause us to experience stress and uncomfortable thoughts and emotions.
Sometimes we need an outside perspective or a place to safely discuss life's challenges. Even normal life events, can cause you trouble adjusting, I offer supportive services to help navigate those changes and help establish a new normal after change.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience specializing in depression, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia and parenting/ children's behavior management.
I graduated with my MSW from Indiana University School of Social Work in 2002. After graduation, I moved to Arizona and worked in a variety of settings and became independently licensed with the state in 2012.
I've worked with the schools on IEPs and behavior issues, done intensive family therapy and ran an intenisve outpatient group for individuals with depression and anxiety.
I recently returned to Arizona after spending 5 years on active duty with the US Navy providing services to active duty/veterans and their families.
I am trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure for PTSD. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for depression, anxiety and insomnia. I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help with emotional regulation and mindfulness.
I work with clients to become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so they can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way. I help clients learn to identify and then change the way they think and replace it with more realistic and positive thinking. Our thoughts guide our emotions and our emotions guide our actions. Changing our thoughts can literally change our life.
We work together to develop clear goals that will help us determine when treatment is completed and what treatment would be the most effective. While I am the licensed professional with training, YOU are the best expert on your life and we work together as a team to tackle the problems.
My priority is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment and therapeutic relationship that is effective in treating symptoms and in discovering the underlying issues that cause them. I believe in learning about each person's history and discovering its direct correlation to their present behavior and presenting symptoms.
I am compassionate, flexible, accessible and genuinely concerned for the health and welfare of those I serve. I enjoy working with both adults and children and I appreciate the courage and strength it takes to seek assistance for those difficult times in your life.
I do also bring humor into the session and I treat each session as an ongoing conversation. You may end up crying and laughing in the same session with me.
I try to focus on brief solution focused therapy. It can be as little as 6 sessions but can also last for a few months. This really depends on how long you have been struggling with the issues and how frequently we may be able to see one another. My goal is to have you feeling better as soon as I possibly ca
My usual rate for a first appointment (considered an intake appointment) is $185. Follow up Appointments are $170. Each appointment lasts approximately 55 minutes.
There is a same day payment discount for those clients not using insurance paying same day. An intake is $150 and follow up appointments are $120.
I am currently contracted with Blue Cross Blue Shield. If you have another form of insurance, I can provide you with paperwork that you can submit for reimbursement or attempt to submit to insurance on your behalf as an Out of Network provider and help you determine what your out of pocket cost would be.
